Natural Lavastone Bathroom, St. Gallen, Switzerland

A Space Shaped by Stone

In St. Gallen, Switzerland, Pyrolave has created a bathroom where Volvic lava expresses its full natural strength.
Carved to measure in the Castelsarrasin workshops, the volcanic stone covers walls and floors, forming a sanctuary of calm and texture — an interior landscape of light and matter.

Texture as a Signature

Each slab reveals its unique mineral patterns and surface variations, the result of ancient volcanic movement.
As light meets water, the stone transforms — its rough surface capturing reflections that animate the space.
Combined with smooth materials such as glass or brushed steel, it creates a harmonious tension between strength and softness.

The Precision of the Handcrafted

From cutting to installation, each step reflects the care and precision of Pyrolave’s artisans.
Every surface is adjusted by hand, respecting the natural irregularities that give the lava its soul.
This attention to detail ensures a perfect integration of the stone within the space — timeless, functional, and expressive.

A Dialogue Between Light and Matter

Conceived as an introspective retreat, the bathroom plays with shadow and reflection.
Throughout the day, natural lava shifts in tone — absorbing morning light, then releasing it softly at dusk.
This project captures a contemporary vision of timeless design, where the mineral becomes emotion and architecture becomes experience.
