Pyrolave at the Palmenhaus: glazed lava at the heart of an iconic Viennese venue

At the heart of the Palmenhaus, a restaurant set within a spectacular Art Nouveau greenhouse that has become one of the symbols of Vienna’s Burggarten, the dining experience unfolds beneath a luminous glass roof. In this unique setting where architecture, nature and heritage interact, Pyrolave delivered a large-scale project: 59 square tables in glazed lava, custom-designed and manufactured to furnish the dining areas of this living landmark.

A colour palette inspired by light

To complement the identity of the venue while contrasting with the lush vegetation and the natural play of light, several colours were used across these unique pieces:

In addition to these tones, two bespoke colours were developed through a dedicated colour research process, designed to perfectly respond to the changing light conditions within the Palmenhaus. Each table becomes a true chromatic composition, in harmony with the restaurant’s architecture and environment.

Square tables designed for convivial experiences

All 59 tables, square in shape, were crafted to meet a dual requirement: professional functionality and an enhanced guest experience. Their precise geometry offers ideal modularity for arranging the dining spaces while inviting guests to pause, converse and enjoy their meal in an atmosphere that is both elegant and welcoming.

Pyrolave glazed lava: combining durability and aesthetics

Manufactured in our workshops, each table was crafted and enamelled with the artisanal precision that defines our expertise. Pyrolave glazed lava stands out for:

  • high mechanical resistance, essential for intensive use in hospitality environments

  • a non-porous food-safe surface, easy to maintain and perfectly suited to professional settings
  • an exceptional aesthetic quality, where texture, depth and brilliance bring the material to life

The natural light flooding the Palmenhaus gently reflects on these surfaces, revealing subtle nuances and reflections, creating an almost organic presence a delicate dialogue between historic architecture and contemporary design.

A meeting point between heritage and creation

Through this project, Pyrolave demonstrates its ability to support architects and restaurateurs in the creation of unique spaces, where materials become a true part of the experience.

At the Palmenhaus, these glazed lava tables fully contribute to the identity of the venue, at the crossroads of architectural heritage and contemporary design.
