Enameled lava stone surfaces to enhance reception desks
For its hotel located in the heart of the La Défense district, OKKO HOTELS entrusted Studio Catoir with the design of a contemporary interior where materials play a key role in shaping the identity of the space. To support this vision, Pyrolave crafted the glazed lava stone surfaces for the reception desks, developed in a custom red color created through a dedicated color research process specifically for the project.
With their deep red hue and glazed finish, these bespoke surfaces bring warmth and elegance to the reception area, creating a refined contrast with the dark woodwork and the clean, minimalist lines envisioned by the architects.
A Material Designed for Reception Areas
As the first point of contact for visitors, reception desks play a central role in the customer experience. Pyrolave’s glazed lava stone surfaces provide a premium finish while meeting the demands of everyday use. Resistant to scratches, impacts, heat, and cleaning products, glazed lava stone is an ideal material for high-traffic public spaces.
The red color, developed specifically for this project through a dedicated color research process, complements the material palette selected by Studio Catoir and enhances the hotel’s warm, contemporary atmosphere.

Pyrolave Expertise in the Service of Bespoke Design
Each surface was custom-made in our workshops using Volvic lava stone. Shaped and glazed through a craft process refined over more than forty years, every piece features a unique finish. The natural crazing of the glaze adds subtle depth to the color, revealing the full richness of the material as it interacts with the light.
A Collaboration Between Contemporary Design and French Craftsmanship
With this project, Pyrolave once again demonstrates its ability to support architects in creating bespoke hospitality interiors. The glazed lava stone reception desk surfaces integrate seamlessly into the interior architecture envisioned by Studio Catoir, where aesthetics, functionality, and durability come together to create an elegant and timeless welcome experience.
